Background Information

I know what you are thinking, of all the things to begin a blog page about, you really chose the advertisement of food? As boring as it may seem, the topic is really something that we should all be a bit more concerned about. Being an advertising major myself, I am naturally already very interested in all things to do with advertising and the process behind it. It was not, however, until a class I took my freshman year of college that got the gears in my head turning. Seeing as we are all naturally exposed to all different types of food on a daily basis (fast food, grocery stores, farmer’s market, etc), it has come to my realization that we have become so immune to the distortion of food advertisement, that we are not even surprised, literally we don’t even blink an eye, when the food we receive does not live up to the food we were promised. If you go to try a new sandwich at your local McDonald’s, does anyone really expect the finished product that is handed to you in a paper bag to look anything like what convinced you to try it on television? The sad reality is that the answer is no. For these reasons, I have set out to bring to you all the research I can find to answer these important questions-how are they allowed to get away with this? or more importantly, why do they want to get away with this?
